Halloween's Jamie Lee Curtis Shares Cool New Portrait Of Laurie Strode
It's a good time to be a horror fan. While the genre has had its ups and downs throughout the year, it's currently in the midst of a renaissance. Tons of new and exciting movies are being produced, with last year's Get Out even garnering a handful of Oscar nominations. Many of the genre's best recent additions come from Blumhouse Productions, and now the acclaimed studio is putting its focus on the OG slasher franchise: Halloween. A new sequel is coming this October, starring Jamie Lee Curtis as scream queen Laurie Strode. Curtis just revealed a closer look at her signature character, 40 years after surviving the attack by Michael Meyers. Check it out.
Laurie Strode is back, and she's rocking basically the same haircut from the first film. Let's break down what we're being shown, and all the possibilities for the 11th Halloween movie.Rather than rocking Jamie Lee Curtis' signature short hair, Laurie Strode will have far longer locks in the new Halloween. Picking up 40 years after the original attack, it appears that Laurie Strode looks almost exactly the same as she did in John Carpenter's signature slasher. Indeed, the promo images that came with the announcement of Curtis' return to the franchise featured Laurie's very same costume from the first film's conclusion. Some of these images even include the slash wound from when Michael very nearly killed the babysitter. It appears that Laurie may be stuck in the world of her youth, which could explain why she hasn't gotten the hell out of Haddonfield in the decades following her attack. The caption that Jamie Lee Curtis provides is no doubt important as well, and teasing what to expect from Laurie when she once again graces the silver screen. To start, Laurie is obviously a survivor. The new Halloween movie will retcon the sequels out of existence, making Laurie the victim of just one attack by the villainous Michael Meyers. And while she didn't have to face off against him in another three movies, the attack itself seems to really be defining the heroine.Aside from being a survivor, Laurie is also a protector. This no doubt relates to the two other generations of Strode women that are also in the new Halloween. Laurie Strode's daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) are also major character in the new film, and they're likely who Laurie is trying to protect. While the overall plot and characters are still very much a mystery, smart money says that Laurie is focused on keeping them safe when Michael shows up. We've seen these aspects of her character when babysitting the kids in the original Halloween, and her relationship to her no longer existent son in H20. We'll just have to wait and see how it all goes down.Halloween will arrive in theaters on October 19, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.
