Jamie Dornan Reveals A Surprising Robin Hood Crush
Jamie Dornan plays Will "Scarlet" Tillman in the new Robin Hood movie, and it must've tickled him that he'd play the boyfriend of Marian. Dornan recently confirmed his longtime crush on Maid Marian -- the animated Marian, that is, from the 1973 Disney movie.
I definitely did/do have a crush on Maid Marian the fox in the Disney animated version.
Can you blame him? She is pretty ... foxy:
Jamie Dornan confessed his crush to Collider, although it wasn't the first time it had come up. In 2011, Dornan said Disney's animated Robin Hood was his favorite film of all time. In 2015, he said this to Yahoo Movies:
I just had such a crush on Maid Marian, the fox. I thought she was so beautiful growing up.
Sounds like he still has that crush today as a married 36-year-old man. But Jamie Dornan told Collider his crush on the animated fox wasn't his main reason for signing on to the movie:
There are obviously so many other reasons I wanted to do it. But it is cool -- not just [the animated version], and Prince of Thieves, and Ridley Scott's version, and even Errol Flynn ones. I have always loved this story, and I remember how excited I was to see Prince of Thieves when I was 11-years-old. I remember that like it was yesterday, that trip to the cinema. I remember the car journey there, I just remember everything about it. And to be involved in something that hopefully some kid somewhere will have a similar excitement to see -- to be involved in that is a very cool thing.
It is amazing to think of how many times the folk tale of Robin Hood has been adapted. Jamie Dornan referenced not only the animated version, with his foxy crush, but also the 1991 Kevin Costner movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and director Ridley Scott's 2010 film starring Russell Crowe.
Not all Robin Hood films have performed equally at the box office. Prince of Thieves picked up $390 million off a reported $48 million budget, which is pretty darn sweet. The 2010 Robin Hood made $321.5 million worldwide - $105M from the domestic side -- but that was off a reported $200 million budget. Slightly less sweet.
And now we have the 2018 _Robin Hoo_d, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, and Jamie Dornan. So far, the box office numbers have not been kind (and neither have the reviews).
On the upside, at least the film hasn't come with the kind of attention Jamie Dornan got with Fifty Shades, which is why he'll never take another job like that again.
