Chris Evans Wants Robert Downey Jr. To Host The Oscars

One of the big discussion points around the Oscars every year, along with winners, losers, snubs and the length of the show, is the host. The last two years have seen late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel on hosting duties, but as of yet the 91st Academy Awards next year do not have a host. Lots of names will be thrown out there until a host is announced, and actor Chris Evans too has someone in mind: his MCU co-star Robert Downey Jr. Check it out:

I second that nomination. All in favor? Chris Evans' choice of Robert Downey Jr. to host the Oscars is an inspired one and would certainly offer something different than what we have seen in recent years with hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Seth MacFarlane and Neil Patrick Harris. He may not have the same sort of comedy background as some of the previous hosts, but with the right material, Robert Downey Jr. could probably kill it.

Like the once and future(?) Captain America, I think many of us might like to see Robert Downey Jr. preside over the ceremony, but that is no guarantee of anything. We don't know if Robert Downey Jr. would even take the job if offered or if the mere nomination is enough for Tony Stark to start another Civil War with Cap.

It would be a somewhat poetic choice though, especially if Black Panther gets the Oscar nomination love that people are hoping and predicting it will get. Robert Downey Jr., the man that kicked off the MCU, hosting the first Oscar ceremony where an MCU film is nominated for Best Picture, that just sounds right.

The Oscars are implementing changes in an effort to spice things up, and bring in viewers with a different host rather than the same rotation of faces we are used to seeing would certainly give the show something to differentiate it and make it feel fresh and new.

In response to Chris Evans on Twitter, some fans are suggesting that he and Robert Downey Jr. host together. It's certainly a fun idea, and no offense to some of the other hosts, but if the Academy wants to bring in younger viewers, having hosts from things young people care about, like Marvel movies, would make sense.

Whoever the host is, the past year in entertainment will provide no shortage of material to work with. From the public troubles of once beloved figures to the industry-altering Disney-Fox deal to the Netflix of it all, there is plenty of stuff for the host to joke about and reference.

One thing that will hopefully be joked about is the Popular Film Category that was supposed to make its debut at the upcoming Academy Awards before it was delayed following industry-wide backlash. There is likely still comedy to squeeze out of that subject and it would be good to see the Academy laughing at itself over this one.

Whether it will be Tony Stark delivering those jokes or not, we'll have to wait and see, but the clock is ticking. The 91st Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019.

Margot Robbie Is Definitely Doing A Harley Quinn Movie, But What Is It Going To Be?

Suicide Squad was a bit of a mixed bag for the DC Extended Universe, commercially proving itself to be a powerhouse, but critically walking away with a lot of negative reception. But one Suicide Squad's elements that was widely praised was Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn, and in the nearly-two years since the movie's release, several Harley Quinn-centric projects have been announced. Earlier this month, we learned that one of these projects is definitely moving forward, and while it was originally reported that it would be Birds of Prey, Robbie has revealed that the title hasn't actually been settled on yet. Here's what Robbie recently said about the upcoming movie starring Harley:

I've been developing that for almost three years now. Now we're greenlit and moving ahead and we have our director so it's a very exciting time after a long process. Yes i'm a producer on that.That's Gotham City Sirens?No. It's a Harley Quinn girl gang film. Yet to be titled. With a female director. Female write. Female director. Another female producer. Girl power.

CinemaBlend's own Conner Schwerdtfeger attended a roundtable for Margot Robbie's new movie Terminal, and when the conversation turned to her upcoming DCEU work, the actress stated that while this newly-greenlighted project was not Gotham City Sirens, we also shouldn't be calling it Birds of Prey. Robbie previously acknowledged to Moviefone that although Gotham City Sirens (which would be directed and produced by Suicide Squad's David Ayer, and was written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet) and a Joker/Harley movie (which Crazy, Stupid, Love duo Glenn Ficara and John Requa were tapped to write and direct) were among the Harley Quinn-centric projects being explored, she didn't have any hand in developing those. This R-rated "girl gang film" has been her baby, and now it looks like it's finally going to be made.

The project we've known as Birds of Prey will be directed by Cathy Yan, and Christina Hodson (who also wrote Bumblebee and is working on the Batgirl movie), penned the script. It's entirely possible that this movie could still see Harley Quinn either fight or team up with heroines like Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress. On the other hand, even though this isn't Gotham City Sirens, calling it a "girl gang film" suggests that Harley could still hang out with fellow criminals like Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Whatever this particular movie ends up being about, count on it being her second DCEU appearance following her time with Task Force X in Suicide Squad.

How A Quiet Place's Producers Feel About Those Cloverfield Rumors

When it comes to secretive marketing campaigns, no one does it like Cloverfield. The franchise will announce a movie and just drop it on Netflix the same day with no warning, so you can understand how some people look at any secretive movie with some suspicion. That's what happened to A Quiet Place, a horror movie about a family that must live in silence to avoid murderous creatures who hunt by sound. It sounds like a Cloverfield-ish premise, but the movie exists entirely on its own and producer Brad Fuller told CinemaBlend that he thought the rumors that it was actually going to be part of the Cloverfield universe were kind of funny. According to Fuller...

We just kind of laughed about it, because I have no idea how that started. This was never going to be a Cloverfield movie. It was a spec script that we bought at Paramount 18 months ago and never had anything to do with Cloverfield. I don't know where that started. No one ever asked us about it. It was just one of those things where the first teaser was released and people started to play the game. I think it kind of went away when the Cloverfield movie, you know the Paradox, came out. No one's really brought it up since then but I have no idea where that started.

A Quiet Place hit theaters this weekend and it looks to be another entry of satisfying horror films that sway critics and audiences alike. Thanks to its premise of remaining silent, the movie drew plenty of attention from moviegoers and the excellent reviews brought everybody else. The movie is entirely original and isn't a part of any franchise, but that didn't stop some internet theorists from thinking it might be a lowkey Cloverfield movie. However, this was apparently never the case for the movie, even though the script came from Paramount, home of the Cloverfield movies. Producer Brad Fuller thinks the rumors mainly came from the reaction to the teaser, which had to be minimalist with the plot, but only because it had to be marketed that way.

Even though A Quiet Place isn't a part of the Cloverfield franchise currently, is it possible that it could be retooled down the line to be a Cloverfield movie? Not likely, producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form told CinemaBlend. A Quiet Place is its own world and maybe it's best that it stays that way.

Andrew Form: That's not our world. I mean that's J.J.'s world and he's carefully curating that Cloverfield world. So I don't even know if this is something that he would want.Brad Fuller: No but I think this is our world. I think John has created this amazing world with these characters and I think A Quiet Place definitely lives on its own.

It might not be a Cloverfield movie, but A Quiet Place is pretty good and you'll still enjoy it! The movie is in theaters right now.
